Their impact on the quality of life in woman with the diagnose of urogenital prolapse

The aim of this descriptive study is to assess the severity of symptoms and their impact on the quality of life in women with the diagnose of ürogenital prolapse.The study included a total number of 179 women with diagnose of ürogenital prolapse applied to the gynecology outpatient clinic of Etlik Zübeyde Hanim Womens Health Teaching and Research Hospital, Ankara, Turkey between July- October 2010. ?Descriptive Information Questionnaire? developed by the authors and the adapted ?The Prolapsus-Related Quality of Life (P-QOL) Questionnaire? were used to collect data. The SPSS 15.0 software package was used for statistical analysis.In this study, 68.1 % of women recruited from the gynecology outpatient clinic was 52 years old over and 46.9 % of them graduated from primary education. 44,1 % of parity was 3-4, 97 % of patients had the history of giving birth vaginally. 72.6 % of women was in the postmenopausal period and 29.1 % of them has history of urogenital prolapse in their family. Only 22.3 % of women who experienced symptoms related to ürogenital prolapse has previously applied to a hospital and 17.9 % of them has received a treatment related to ürogenital prolapse.Generally, ürogenital prolapse affect womens general health perceptions, physicial activations, social activities, personal relationships and the quality of sleep Especially ıt was also found that these negative effects were experienced by women who were illiterate, have higher BMI and higher parity. General health perception of women with third or higher degree ürogenital prolapse, was worst and quality of life was more affected by ürogenital prolapse symptoms.The study shows that ürogenital prolapse is a common health problem that affects the quality of life of women negatively. Therefore, all women should be educated and consulted about ürogenital prolapse and to prevent to disease and for early diagnose and treatment.Key words: Urogenital prolapse, women, quality of life
