Abstract (EN)

In this thesis, it has been studied to automate detecting the defects on the surface of a ceramic tile using a computer system. Firstly, the current system at tile manufacturing industry in Turkey is outlined. This is followed by summarizing image processing and some of its techniques. Next, a number of techniques recently developed to detect various kinds of defects on tiles is reviewed. Then, the techniques used at preprocessing and processing parts in application of this thesis are described. How the Canny edge detector is used at defect detection on ceramic tiles in this thesis is described. According to the quality control process; the features gained from image processing are forwarded to be inputs for an expert system
