Abstract (EN)

This study aims to examine the "Late Hellenistic and Roman Period Jewellery and Jewellery Works in Uşak Museum" especially from a gemological point of view, to reveal the importance of gemology for the science of archaeology, and to explain the construction techniques of the jewellery works examined here with the information obtained from ancient and modern sources in terms of both jewellery and jewellery. In this thesis, in which the development of both gemology and jewelry and gemstone processing techniques from Antiquity to the present day is investigated, archaeo-gemology, a new sub-discipline of gemology, is defined and its important aspects and contribution to archaeology are also investigated. In addition, most of the artefacts found in the Uşak Museum, mostly in the museum storage, were re-examined in the context of the subject. As a result of the research; it was seen that the techniques used in the shaping of the gems and the jewelry products created with gems are essentially similar to today's techniques, the only thing that has changed is the technology used. As a result of gemological examinations, it was determined that some of the stones were glass and some glass artifacts were stones, and the group/class distinctions of the materials were redefined with the help of gemological instruments. When supported by further analysis, this study will contribute to other archaeogemological studies.
