Abstract (EN)

This study focuses on the class and political relations that emerged in the triangle of labor, capital and state in the Late Ottoman Empire, in the light of the machine breaking actions led by women carpet weaving and carpet yarn producers in Uşak in 1908. The main purpose of the study is to discover the continuity of the class conflict that spread over the years of these actions that took place a few months before the Second Constitutional Monarchy in 1908. Examining this historical period in which Muslim women workers organized against Muslim merchants has the potential to contribute to the class nature of labor movements in the Late Ottoman Empire. In addition, it aims to contribute to the history of the agency of Ottoman women workers. Rather than an action-oriented labor history study, the study focuses on the multifaceted character of the relationships that emerged in the production process and to reveal a more in-depth picture of the period. The historical role of Uşak merchants, both as a part of the class conflict and as a national economic will, also has been the subject of investigation. Finally, the interest of the study is to reveal the state's relationship with different layers of society in the midst of this class conflict and its strategic policy that were constructed between oppression and concession towards this relationship. This study draws mainly from Ottoman archive sources and newspapers of the period to evaluate this multi-layered relationship between labor, capital and the state.
