Determination of physical-mechanical properties of natural building stones in Uşak region

In this study, rubble-size samples of "Uşak White-Uşak Yeşil" marbles taken from 9 marble quarries operating in Ulubey, Karahallı and Sivaslı districts in Uşak were first prepared in accordance with TSE standards in the marble cutting workshop, and then they were examined in laboratory studies carried out according to the relevant standards. physical, mechanical, chemical and mineralogical-petrographic properties were determined. By comparing these determined features with TS 1910, TS 2513 and TS 10449 standard values, their places of use as natural building blocks were determined and it was determined whether they were suitable for the places of use. Experiments were carried out on 5 samples for each physico-mechanical property, and the arithmetic averages of the obtained results were used in the evaluation of the results. According to the mineralogical-petrographic examinations made in Uşak marbles, it was determined that the marbles were composed of calcite minerals with well-developed polysynthetic twinning showing granoblastic texture. According to the grain size measurements made in the calcite minerals, it was observed that the grain sizes ranged from 101.7 µm to 2266.9 µm, and it was determined that the Uşak marbles were in the fine-medium grain class. The determined physico-mechanical values show that it provides the limit values specified in the standards and that Uşak marbles can be used as natural building stones and facing stones.
