Abstract (EN)

The purpose of this study is to establish a learning environment harmoniouswith a constructivist learning approach that will enable learners to gain insights intodata collection, to determine the effects of this learning environment on the learners?educational achievements, on their attitudes towards mathematics, on theestablishment of the relationship between school and life, on their learning by meansof investigation and by means of communication with others, and on thedevelopment of their mathematical thinking. This is an experimental study with a control group capitalizing on a pre-testand post test model. The sample of the study consisted of 70 fifth graders havingtheir primary education during the fall term of the 2005-2006 school year. Of these70 pupils, 35 participants took part in the control group and the other 35 in theexperimental group. Before starting the experimental study, diverse tests wereadministered to the participants in both control and experimental groups to determinewhether they were at the same level or not. It was found out that there was nosignificant difference between two groups. In other words, both groups were found tobe at the same level. In this study both qualitative and quantitative methods were used to collectthe data. The collected data were compiled by using Mathematics Attitudes Scale,Graphical Point of View Attitudes Scale, Data Collection and Evaluation Tests,Spread Working Sheets involve Data Concept and Students? Diaries. Thequantitative data were analyzed with statistical programs. The qualitative data wereread, analyzed, coded and grouped under the various headlines by the researcher andin some cases this data were analyzed with various scales.By the end of this study, it has been notified that proposed ?constructivelearning environment? has helped to establish and to learn data concept very much.A very meaningful differences, regarding Attitudes aimed at Mathematics andGraphics subjects and academical success between the control group and theexperimental group, were realized.Key words: constructive learning approach, data collection and evaluationconcept, constructivist learning environment, assessment-evaluation.
