Micro-ct evaluation of the apical transportation in mesial root canals of mandibular first molars with vertucci type 2 using rotary and reciprocating instruments

Abstract (EN)
Aim: The aim of the study was to evaluate apical transportation after root canal preparation to working length in both canals with reciprocating and rotary instruments in mandibular first molars which have Vertucci type 2 canals merging at single foramen. Material and Method: İn this study 20 mandibular first molars' mesial roots having Vertucci type 2 canal configuration were used. Teeth were divided into two groups. İn the first group reciprocating file system was used, in the second group rotary file system was used . After preparation of lingual canals in both group specimens were scanned with Micro-CT. Then buccal canals in both groups were prepared. Specimens were scanned again and apical foramens were measured at four dıfferent direction and results were compared. Statistical analysis was performed with the IBS SPSS V23 (Chicago, USA). Shapiro Wilk test was used for normal distribution in groups. Homogeneity of variance was assessed with Levene test. Result: İn bukkolingual direction transportation values were statistically different between WaveOne Gold and OneShape groups (p=0.043). İn meziodistal direction tranportation values were not statistically different between groups (0.641). Removed dentin thickness values in lingual directions between groups were not statistically different (p= 0,181). Removed dentin thickness values in buccal direction between groups were not significant (p= 1,000). Dentin thickness values in mesial direction between groups were not different (p= 0,599). Dentin thickness values in distal direction between groups were not statistically different (p= 0,948). İn the WaveOne Gold group removed dentin thickness mean values were statistically different between lingual direction and other three directions (p= 0,024). İn the OneShape group transportation mean values were statistically different between lingual direction and other three directions (p<0,001). İn the both group removed dentin thickness in lingual directions were bigger than in other directions. Conclusion: There were statistical difference between resiprocating and rotary instruments groups in bukkolingual transportation values. All values were smaller than 0,3 mm. İn the both groups removed dentin thickness values in lingual directions were bigger than other directions. Keywards: Vertucci type 2, apical transportation, Micro-CT, Ni-Ti single file systems
