Investigation of relationship between VLF signal perturbations and geomagnetic indices

Abstract (EN)

In this study, the relationship between VLF signal perturbations and geomagnetic indices were investigated for the HWU and ICV-coded two VLF signal during the first six months of 2006.A Matlab program was written to detect perturbations automatically on the VLF signals and the results were compared with the manual.The relationship between events on these two signals was analyzed monthly, daily and hourly. An opposite-strong relation for monthly and a right-weak for daily and hourly was found between these stations.The Kp and DST indices were categorized monthly, daily and hourly to investigate the relationship between events on the signals with geomagnetic indices. In this study, the Regression Analyze Method of SPSS program which is usually used for the social sciences was applied. According to the results, interactions were found between the perturbations on the VLF signals and Kp and DST index, in daily and hourly conditions. It was observed that Kp and DST indices generally increase the number of perturbations.Keywords: VLF, Kp, DST, SPSS, Regresyon Analysis
