Abstract (EN)

Bodybuilding is widely preferred today not only for aesthetic concerns but also to improve individuals' physical and psychological health. This sport, aimed at increasing muscle mass, enhancing physical endurance, and improving overall health, significantly impacts individuals' quality of life. In this context, the study aims to examine the relationship between quality of life and the bioimpedance and anthropometric measurements of individuals who engage in bodybuilding and those who do not. The sample of the study consists of individuals aged 21-50 living in Şanlıurfa, both those who participate in bodybuilding and those who do not engage in any sports. A total of 72 voluntary participants (51.4%) engaged in bodybuilding and 68 participants (48.6%) not engaged in sports took part in the study. The 'Demographic Information Form' and the 'EUROHIS WHOQOL-8 World Health Organization Quality of Life Scale Short Form' were used as data collection tools. Bioimpedance and anthropometric measurements were conducted using the In-Body 720 device. The study found statistically significant differences in the quality of life between individuals engaged in bodybuilding and those who are not (p<0.05). Additionally, significant differences were observed in the use of ergogenic aids and income levels between these two groups (p<0.05). Statistically significant differences were identified in bioimpedance measurements such as intracellular fluid, extracellular fluid, protein amount, body fat percentage, body fat mass, body weight, skeletal muscle mass, body mass index, right-left arm muscle mass, trunk muscle mass, and basal metabolic rate (p<0.05). Significant differences were also found in anthropometric measurements of waist circumference and right-left thigh circumference (p<0.05). However, no statistically significant differences were detected in variables such as exercise duration, marital status, education level, age, and frequency of weekly exercise (p>0.05). Moreover, no significant differences were observed in mineral content, right-left leg muscle mass, neck circumference, chest circumference, hip circumference, and visceral fat area (p>0.05).
