XVI-XVIII. Diyarbekir Castle between centuries (Conquest, administration and organization)

The name of the city of Diyarbekir first emerged when the city was conquered during the Islamic period. Before that, the name of the city was "Amid", "Black Amid". The city has been in the hands of many civilizations and states throughout history. It was conquered by the Ottoman Empire in 1515 and from this date on, it became a province affiliated to the center. Bıyıklı Mehmed Pasha was appointed to Diyarbekir Governorship. Thus, Diyarbekir became the farthest end region from the center. For border security, the fort in the city was consolidated and repaired. The Ottoman Empire gave great importance to the castles as military security. For this reason, it was strengthened and organized in Diyarbekir Castle.
