Abstract (EN)

Infection is an important cause of mortality and morbidity in burnt patients due to the integrity disorder of the skin. Many of the microorganisms are potential causes of burn wound and general skin injury infections. Beside members of the normal flora, Gram positive and/or negative bacteria and funghal agents are may be involved in these infections. Resistive nosocomial infections by burn wound patients are very common. Infection rate due to Gram negative bacteria is proportional to the duration of hospitalisation. The burn wound area should be isolated in order to prevent contamination and control infections. Culture and antibiogram are very important guides for the decision of the therapy algorithm In this thesis, the study of the microorganisms isolated from burn wound and general skin injury lesions of the patients hospitalized in the Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery Department of Firat University with burn wound and skin injury infection diagnosis and their sensitivity to antibiotics is aimed. The study was completed in the Clinical Microbiology Department between February 2012 and February 2013. A sample size of 100 cases (90 general injury, 10 burn injury) with colonisation were studied. Sensitivity towards antibiotics were evaluated by using the disk diffusion method. Twenty-four distinct species of bacteria were isolated by the 100 burn wound and skin injury cases whereas Candida spp. revealed by 2 of them. The most common microorganism isolated was Acinetobacter baumannii (17%). Coagulase negative staphylococcus (15 %) were isolated second commonly where Escherichia coli (12 %) and Staphylococcus aureus (12 %) shared the 3rd. place. As a result the most common isolated bacteria revelaed as Acinetobacter baumannii. Key Words: Wound infections, burn infections, antibiotic susceptibility testing.
