Abstract (EN)

Investigation of physicochemical behaviours and analysis of similar structured organic compounds with techniques related to their structural properties from the media that they exist all together, make generally one of the basic problems of chemistry. To show their competitive adsorption on GAC surface and analysis with spectroscopic methods in mixtures of some of the aromatic amines which are unavoidably exist in various industrial media is the main intent of this study. The quantitative analysis of these compounds which have very similar UV-VIS spectra due to their similar chemical bond characteristics with derivative spectroscopic methods should be considered as an alternate to the chromatographic methods. As the secondary intent of the study, it was tried to put forward systematically the effects of types and position of functional groups (? OH and ?NH2) attached to the benzene ring on the competitive adsorption of aromatic amines on GAC in a batch system. Furthermore, preparing a colourful animation for the competitive adsorption issue to be better understood in chemical education constitues the educational intent of the study. In the experimental studies, primarily, spectroscopic investigations and individual adsorption of the main reference substance, aniline, and other aromatic amine compounds on GAC from their individual aqueous solutions were researched. Then, the spectroscopic analyzability of these compounds from their binary mixtures were shown and the antagonistic effect on their adsorption was systematically investigated. Adsorption studies were evaluated according to the well-known models. The results showed that the components that are present in anilin/aminophenol and anilin/phenylenediame binary mixtures can be analysed generally with zero-crossing derivative spectroscopy method with a good accuracy and precision. The worked concentration range for the investigated compounds was selected as 0,3 % - 0,8 % (w/v), and the adsorbat/solution ratio was determined as 1 g GAC/50 mL. The studies were made directly in their aqueous solutions or in their acidic solutions at pH 1 to obtain the solubility, and the results were presented comparatively.
