Abstract (EN)

This study aimed to perform the validity and reliability study of the food frequency questionnaire which used in age-related eye diseases (Age Related Macular Degeneration-AMD). The study included 100 individuals aged 50 and over who applied to the Retina unit outpatient clinic of the Department of Ophthalmology of a university hospital. A general information form containing sociodemographic characteristics was applied and also a total of twelve-day food consumption records for three days a week for four weeks were recorded. Energy, nutrients and dietary antioxidant capacity values, which obtained food frequency questionnaire and food consumption recording methods were compared. The concordance of this two methods was evaluated by statistical methods. It was determined that the according to their AMD stages, and 20,0% of the individuals have early, 37,0% intermediate, and 43,0% advanced stage AMD. 52% of the individuals were men and 48% were women. There was no statistically significant relationship between the AMD stages of individuals according to gender (p> 0,05). It has been determined that 88% of the individuals were in the elderly group who were 65 years and older. It was determined that the average age of individuals with advanced AMD is statistically significantly higher than the average age of individuals with early stage AMD (p <0,05). Obesity, which associated with oxidative stress, was evaluated by anthropometric measurements, but no statistically significant difference was found between the relevant measurements and AMD stages (p> 0,05). It was determined that the energy and nutrient intakes obtained from the food frequency questionnaire were similar or significantly higher than the food consumption record measurements (p <0,05). Test-retest application results of the frequency of food consumption showed that the repeatability was very strong (ICC = 1). The majority of the data were within the limits of concordance and the food consumption record and food frequency questionnaire methods had a moderate correlation (0,4 Keyword: Anketler = Questionnaires ; Antioksidanlar = Antioxidants ; Beslenme = Nutrition ; Göz = Eye ; Göz hastalıkları = Eye diseases ; Güvenilirlik ve geçerlilik = Reproducibility of results ; Gıda tüketimi = Food consumption ; Yaş faktörleri = Age factors
