Social structure in Yaşar Kemal's novels

Society has a dynamic structure that indicates a complex network of relationships. Social structure is a flexible concept and can be vary according to time and locality. Since literature deals with people, relations between people and social life have become the subject of literature. The sociology of literature deals with the social structure in literary works. In literary works, it is possible to examine the life of the society and the social and political structure of the period. In the history of Turkish literature, there are many writers deal with social structure in their works. Although literature is a field fueled by fiction, it also includes social realities. Writers are also a part of the society and effect of society can be seen in the works they write. Naturally, writers are influenced by the society they live in and to transfer their observations in their works. Yaşar Kemal, one of Turkey's important social realist writers, meticulously explained society and social values in his works. The author's novels contain information about the history of the period, social life, belief and value systems. Many works of the author, who attracted especially with his village novels, have attracted great attention throughout the country and the world. The works of Kemal, one of the most important writers of his age, still attract great attention today. In addition to his identity as a writer, he has been on the agenda with his social criticism. He worked to solve Turkey's existing problems and deficiencies and did not refrain from fighting for his ideas. Kemal reflected the Turkish peasant in his works in a realistically and explained the troubles of the peasant through his novels. Based on the people of Çukurova, he also touched upon the social problems of people living in other parts of the country. Kemal emphasized nature descriptions in his works and described Çukurova to the reader with all its natural beauties. The difficult life of the author, who has been in touch with art since his childhood, did not dull his love for people. The author describes his love and hope for humanity in his novels. In novels, the thoughts and actions of the characters are presented to the reader in a realistically. The works, enriched with descriptions, shed light on the period described. In this study, the social life of the Early Republican Period was tried to be analyzed within the framework by examining the works of Yaşar Kemal. Document analysis, which is one of the qualitative data collection techniques, was used in the research. Considering the findings obtained from the novels, inferences were made about the 4social structure of the period. Descriptive analysis method, one of the qualitative research methods, was used in the summarization and interpretation of the data.
