Abstract (EN)
In the recent years the increase in the life span of humans and the problems encountered in this process have gained emphasis. In this study the aging in Turkey and world, types and theories of ageing, relationship between time, perception and memory, factors affecting perception and the perception of ageing are discussed while the change in the perception of time with ageing has been analyzed. How is it that as we age we perceive time to pass faster? Which parts of our brain play a role in this change? Time estimation experiment applied to subjects of different ages reveals that the perception of how fast time passes varies on the basis of ageing. In the study 16 people of ages 20, 40, 60 and 80 were interviewed. The subjects utilized the time given without any means to measure it. The average of the estimates obtained has been determined on the `ageing and time graphic? drawn in terms of seconds.Variance analysis was used to determine whether there is any significant statistical difference between age groups and the perception of time. Due to the limited number of data points obtained in the age groups used, non-parametric Kruksal-Wallis H Variance analysis method was employed. On the basis of this method and based on the limited number of subjects used, a significant statistical difference could not be found in close age groups in regards to the time estimate perception (Chi Square=7.61, Degree of freedom=3, p=0.055).For this reason the age groups were compared in pairs. In the comparison of pairs Mann-Whitney U test was used to determine whether each age group has any relationship with other age groups. According to this test it has been established that there is a statistically significant difference between 20 ? 60 and 20 ? 80 age groups.
