Abstract (EN)

In this study, European Union (EN) and American (ASTM) standards, which are used to determine the abrasion resistance of rocks in igneous origin and carbonate origin natural stones, were compared. The amount of wear that will occur as a result of the friction of pedestrians and wheeled vehicles, especially in the floor covering areas of natural stones, is an important criterion in estimating the life of natural stones and in deciding whether to use them or not. In this thesis, the correlation between the results obtained by applying TS-EN 14157 and ASTM C241 Abrasion Resistance Determination standard test methods on some igneous stones and carbonate origin stones (limestone, marble, travertine) was tried to be determined. As a result, a highly correlated inverse relationship was found between the two standard test methods. In this way, an equation proposal is introduced for converting a result in any standard test method to the result of another standard test method.
