Development of performance technique in a new qanuon model and its adapting to selected works of different musical genres

In the research, the techniques developed on a new kanun model and the applicability of these techniques to selected works belonging to different musical genres were studied. The execution of the YBKM, which was created with a different physical structure than the standard kanun model, resulted in the application of a different technique and this technique was named as Orçal kanun technique (oct). The first prototype of the YBKM was created in 2004, and it has gone through different stages and technical expansions until today. It is thought that this research is important for the development of different playing techniques for both performances, primarily YBKM performance and traditional kanun performance; however, it is also important in terms of revealing new gains in the interpretation phase and gaining different perspectives. The aim of this research is to perform (adapt) many works belonging to different genres with the oct developed on the YBKM and to create etudes for the new techniques that emerged. The findings of the research are discussed in the fourth chapter. In this section, there are explanations supported by visuals on how the ornamentation techniques used in the standard kanun technique are applied in the oct. The plectrum movements in the oct are discussed in detail. Under the title of Orçal kanun technique, the visual of the YBKM is given, the oct grip position and the duties of both hands are explained, finger numbers and latch grip positions are shown in detail. The exercises for the orchal kanun technique were created with the logic of simple to difficult, grouped according to the relevant techniques and information on target behaviors was presented. In the findings, three pieces named "Haydar Haydar", 'Asturias' and "Nihavend Sigan", which constitute the sample of the research, were studied, the original note and the new note adapted to the octave were written and presented. The performance techniques for the octave applied in the works were explained by showing them in notation. In the study, document analysis/review method, one of the qualitative research methods, was used. Within this method, documentary screening model was applied. Based on the scanning model in the research; works belonging to classical Turkish music, Turkish folk music and classical guitar repertoire were identified. The technical performability of the identified works was examined and the notation of the works was rewritten in the computer environment in accordance with the YBKM. technique. In the research, it was revealed that the oct is different from the standard kanun performance techniques and accordingly a new form of performance was formed. The different tasks of both hands and the increasing differentiation of the responsibility in the right-left plectrum movements have resulted in a wide range of possibilities in terms of repertoire.
