New religious movements sociology: Case of Adana

The consolidation of globalization, postmodernism and individualism in the world society after 1950 led to the emergence of new interpretations and beliefs about sacred and spirituality. Eclectic spiritual associations which incorporate various teachings from many religions born in different geographies emerge In this environment, where all world cultures have the chance of interacting with each other. On the other hand, the decrease in the influence of religion on social life -which means secularization- has led to the weakening of the religious protectionism of societies over the centuries and has caused the individual's choices to become a priority. Although the discipline of sociology of religion has put forward definitions such as New Religious Movements and New Age Movements to name these types of new movements, these definitions do not cover all groups and movements related to spirituality that emerged with postmodernity In this context, the movement named Neo Spiritualism has been analyzed in terms of its ideas, lifestyle and social situation. At the conclusion of the research, a type of movement that is not religious but does not exclude religion completely has been reached and is defined as the Meta-Religious Movement.
