Abstract (EN)
The purpose of this study was to examine the views of sixth grade students and mathematics teachers teaching these students about the knowledge level and implementation of the measurement and assessment tools in the new sixth grade mathematics teaching program, and to find the effects of gender, teaching experience and place on the views of the participants. There were a total of 472 sixth graders and mathematics teachers involved in this study. Ninety of them were mathematics teachers and 382 of them were sixth grade students. This study took place in Afyonkarahisar during the year of 2007-2008.In this study the researcher used two questionnaires, a teacher view questionnaire and a student view questionnaire. The student view questionnaire consisting of 12 items was developed for finding the level of implementation of the measurement and assessment tools in the new sixth grade mathematics teaching program. Likewise, the teacher view questionnaire including 17 items was developed for finding out the knowledge level and implementation level of the measurement and assessment tools in the new sixth grade mathematics teaching program. After the collection of quantitative data, the researcher used descriptive statistics, independent-samples t-test and One-way ANOVA in the analyses of it.The study showed that based on the students? views, the Performance homework was implemented in mathematics classes more than both the Project and Portfolyo works, and the self-assessment was implemented more than both Peer-Assessment and Mathematics Diaries. The mathematics teachers claimed that they did not use the measurement tools well enough in the student assessment such as rubric, interview, observation, control lists and concept maps. Furthermore, the variables, gender and place, were not vital factors on the views of both teachers and students about the new program. However, teaching experience was a great factor on the views of teachers. According to findings of this study, the less experienced mathematics teachers knew the measurement tools and implement them well more than the more experienced mathematics teachers.Key Words: New 6th grade mathematics teaching program; measurement and assessment tools; teachers? views; students? views
