Abstract (EN)

Studies on improving the performance of internal combustion engines are important research area for developing automotive technologies. One of these techniques is analysis of flow and heat transfer characteristics in combustion chambers of internal combustion engines using computational fluid dynamics techniques. In this study, a numerical work has been performed by using CFD techniques to simulate flow and temperature fields in combustion chambers. An example model was chosen to make a simulation in computer. In the study, the model of an eccentric pentroof type combustion chamber was chosen as physical model. The result of heat and fluid flow model from the pentroof type combustion chamber is compared with conventional type combustion chamber. Unsteady flow characteristics were analyzed in chamber for intake stroke using dynamic mesh. The FLUENT commercial code was used for modeling. It is observed that the pentroof type model is the better model than the conventional one for heat and fluid flow characteristics.
