Abstract (EN)

The structural properties of Schiff bases are significant due to the stability provided by the aryl and alkyl substituents attached to the nitrogen atom in the azomethine group. Furthermore, Schiff bases differ in their hydrolysis resistance and complexation abilities compared to oxime, phenylhydrazone, and semicarbazone derivatives. These properties make Schiff bases prominent compounds in coordination chemistry and the synthesis of functional polymers. In this thesis, using 8-Hydroxyquinoline-2-carbaldehyde and three different amine derivatives (1-Amino-2-hydroxy-4-naphthalenesulfonic acid, 4-Amino-5- hydroxy-naphthalene-2,7-disulfonic acid, and 3-Amino-2-hydroxy-5-nitrobenzene sulfonic acid) as starting materials and utilizing the methods given in the literature, new Schiff base ligands and their transition metal (Cu2+, Ni2+, Co2+, and Zn2+) complexes were synthesized . The structures of the synthesized compounds were characterized UV-Vis, FT-IR, ¹H-NMR, mass (LC-MS/MS), and magnetic susceptibility measurements. KEYWORDS: Schiff base, Transition metal complexes, Coordination chemistry
