neutrophil-lymphocyte ratio in hypertensive patients with newly diagnosed and epicardial adipose tissue thickness relationship

SUMMARY The Relation Of Neutrophil Lymphocyte Ratio and Epicardial Fat Tissue Thickness In Patients with Newly-diagnosed Hypertension Epicardial fat tissue thickness (EFT) neutrophil lymphocyte ratio (NLR) are parameters related to atherosclerosis. There are not enough number of studies dealing with the relation between these parameters among subjects with newly diagnosed hypertension. In this study, we searched the relation of EFT and NLR in newly diagnosed patients detected with 24-hour ambulatory blood pressure monitoring (ABPM). Eighty consecutive subjects without chronic illness diagnosed with hypertension according to ABPM results and 80 otherwise healthy subjects were enrolled in the study. EFT of each subject was measured echocardiographically. C-reactive protein (CRP) and NLR values were harvested from venous blood samples. 24-hour average systolic blood pressure of the hypertension group was 143±17 mmHg while it was 117±7 mmHg in the control group (p<0,001). There was no any difference statistically between the groups in respect to age, gender and body mass index. EFT, NLR and CRP values were detected to be higher in the patients with hypertension (p<0,001 for all comparisons). Additionally; both in the study population (r=0,409; p<0,001) and in the hypertension group (r=0,534; p<0,001), there was positive correlation between EFT and NLR. In conclusion, higher EFT and NLR values which are associated with atherosclerosis can suggest long-lasting high blood pressure and permanent effects on cardiovascular system among subjects with newly diagnosed hypertension.
