Abstract (EN)

Along with the impact of globalization, the exchange of cultures around the world has accelerated. In this changing world, the target audience of industrial designers is also changing. The main purpose of this thesis is to examine the effect of local and global cultural understandings on industrial design process with the effect of globalization. In the literature survey, primarily the terms culture and globalization were conceptually explained. The approaches emerging as a consequence of cultural globalization were examined, understanding the issues over current approaches and examples of research topics is provided. Thereafter, industrial design and culture relationship and how industrial design is influenced by the globalization of cultures explained. In this research, semi-structured interviewing selected as a research method and interviews are done with Turkish industrial designers working in the furniture sector. During those interviews, researcher questioned that the participant's design process, the impact of globalization on the industrial designer, change of target groups as a result of globalization, the influence of the global culture and popular culture on design process, the influence of the local culture on design process. According to the results, the cultural effects of globalization can be observed in the design process.
