Examining the benefits and adequacy of recreational sports activities organized by municipalities in local governments: Çorlu example

The purpose of this study is to investigate the effects of recreational sports activities organized by municipalities on the recreational benefits and competence levels of participating individuals. The sample for the study consists of individuals over the age of 18 who participated in sporting events organized by the Municipality of Çorlu. The scale method was used as the data collection tool in the study. Demographic questions were asked, alongwith some basic questions from the Recreational Expectations Scale developed by Ağılönü (2007). The measurement tools used were the Leisure Benefit Scale, adapted into Turkish by Akgül and colleagues (2018), and the Leisure Satisfaction Scale developedby Gökçe and Orhan (2011). The SPSS 25.0 program was used to analyze the data.first, skewness and kurtosis values were examined to determine the distribution characteristics of the data. Subsequently, descriptive statistics were calculated, and independent sample t-testsand one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) were applied for intergroup comparisons. In cases where there were significant differences, post-hoc comparisons were performed using the Tukey HSD test. Pearson correlation analysis was performed to determine the relationships between scales. In conclusion, no statistically significant differences were found between participants' recreation benefit levels and any variables other than leisure satisfaction, employment status, and the psychological sub-dimension of recreation benefit. However, it has been determined that there are positive and significant relationships between the subdimensions of recreational benefit and leisure time satisfaction.
