Organizational gossip in local governments: the case of Kastamonu Municipality

Regardless of the nature of the corporate identity, it is known that in addition to official communication channels, informal forms of communication such as organizational gossip also play an important role in the functioning mechanism of institutions. Gossip activity has the capacity to affect efficiency and productivity at different levels when it is carried out among employees within the framework of corporate mechanisms. Decapitation activity has the capacity to affect efficiency and productivity at different levels. In this study, the dynamics, effects and consequences of organizational gossip in local governments, which constitute an important element of participation in management and thus democracy, were examined through the example of Kastamonu Municipality. The main purpose of the research is to Decipher how organizational gossip is shaped within the municipality, how it affects the relationships between employees and its reflections on the provision of municipal services. In other words, with this study, it is aimed to determine to what extent organizational gossip affects the effectiveness and efficiency of corporate activities. Quantitative research methods were used in the study. Firstly, surveys were conducted with public employees working in various units in Kastamonu Municipality who formed the focus group.The surveys conducted have presented important findings aimed at understanding the prevalence of organizational gossip, their content and the roles of actors in this process. The data obtained were evaluated by statistical analysis and it was found that organizational gossip can damage the trust between employees, negatively affect cooperation and complicate the overall working environment.
