Abstract (EN)

In order to minimize the impact of earthquakes on human life and social life, urban planning should be carried out by determining the criteria of suitability for settlement while designing settlement areas. Determining the locations of active fault lines with high accuracy and establishing fault setback bands should be included in these criteria. In this study, the Parmakören Neighborhood of the central district of Kütahya province was selected as the study area. The active faults in the region, which have the potential to cause earthquakes, were identified linearly from the 1/250000 scale fault map generated by the General Directorate of Mineral Research and Exploration in 2011. However, parameters such as the precise locations, deep extensions, movements and fault setback bands of these faults are not known in the mentioned source. In this study, the precise locations, deep extensions, movements and fault setback bands of the active faults in the region were determined by using GNSS and Magnetotelluric methods. Thus, the suitability criteria of the areas newly opened for settlement in the region located in the central part of the Parmakören Fault, which is about 14 km long and controlled the northern edge of the Kütahya graben in the Quaternary, were classified by weighted overlay method according to the scores of natural factors such as Geology, Slope, Aspect, Altitude and Active Fault, and areas suitable for settlement were presented by producing thematic maps.
