Abstract (EN)

In this study we aimed to determine structural and mechanical properties of basalt provided from Konya source, glass-ceramics were produced and coated on AISI 1040 steel substrate by plasma spray technique. Basalt powders with size of ? 53 + 45 µm coated on steel substrate amorphous ceramic was manufactured by sudden cooling. The coatings obtained were transformed into glass ceramics by controlled heat treatment. The amorphous structure of coatings was verified by XRD analysis. Glass-ceramics using DTA analysis results by exposed to crystallization heat treatment in argon atmosphere were obtained.Using DTA results crystallization treatments were performed at 800, 900 and 1000 °C by direct heating method and to see effect of heat treatment every heat treatment was performed for 1-4 hours.Augite, ferrian-diopsite, anorthite and andesine phases formed in coating were verified by XRD analysis. The degree of crystallinity of the glass-based basalt coating has changed between 36 % and 97 %.Crystallization and viscous flow activation energies of the glass coating were determined as 324 kj mol-1 and 364 kj mol-1. The hardness basalt-based glass-ceramic coatings were changing between 1009 HV0.05 and 1295 HV0.05. The fracture toughness of the coating layers ranged from 2.2 MPa m1/2 to 3.8 MPa m1/2. Wear tests of the coatings revealed that depending on increase in velocity and load the wear rate increased. In the present study, results obtained from the studies showed that basalt was able to use for glass-ceramic coating by means of plasma spray coating treatment and controlled crystallization heat treatment.
