Abstract (EN)

History contains important moments of decision-making for humanity. These moments not only belong to that period, but also shape the course of history for years and even centuries to come. One of these moments is the Battle of Yarmouk, which took place in 15/636 and left deep traces in Islamic history. Prior to the Battle of Yarmouk, which has a very important place in Islamic history, Muslims obeyed the Prophet's command to spread Islam and organized conquests in lands inhabited by non-Muslims. As a result of the battles of Mûte, Tabuk, Arabe, Dasin, Ajnâdeyn, Fihl and Homs against Byzantium, Muslims advanced towards Damascus. Islamic armies both expanded their borders and increased the number of Muslims by spreading Islam in the geographies they conquered. The Byzantine Empire, which was disturbed by this, took action to prevent the Islamic conquests and to stop the progress of the Muslims and started the Battle of Yarmouk. The war had religious, economic and political reasons for both Byzantium and the Muslims. The tactical mastery and military genius of both the Byzantine army commander Māhān and the Muslim commanders, especially Khālid b. Walīd, and their strategic moves before and during the battle took the Battle of Yarmouk beyond a military victory and made it one of the turning points of Islamic history. This battle consolidated the Muslim presence in the region and accelerated the spread of Islam. In addition to being a military victory, this war also affected the political and social dynamics of Islam at the time. As a result of the struggles of the armies of both sides, the Byzantine army was defeated despite the disadvantage of the small number of Muslims. This study analyzes the Battle of Yarmouk in depth, examining the impact and aftermath of this important event in Islamic history. It explores various aspects of the Battle of Yarmouk, including the political developments preceding the battle, the tactical aspects of the battle, the aftermath of the battle, and the role of this victory in the expansion of Islam, in order to reveal the place and significance of the Battle of Yarmouk in Islamic history.
