Abstract (EN)

Individuals live through various emotive settings and emotional experimentations in work settings as well as daily life. Revealingly, emotions and emotive modalities take very salient place in one's life. As a rule, it can be adduced that emotions are determinant variables in terms of one's processes of will and volition, of one's praxes and act/ion/s, as well as of shaping one's behaviors with respect to the future. Hence, one may easily see the traces and imprints of multi-faceted emotions and excitements within the context of one's daily life. Based on the emotional context and setting in which the individual lives, s/he may, or may not be successful at her/his work, in general. What is more, since emotions would, to a great extent, affect the nature and expression of behavior, thence, it is quintessentially important to get this in the aim to understand behaviors within the sphere of organization. Not to mention, emotions are inseparable part of organizational and administrative life, as a whole. Hence, they, as are, affect the scope, nature, and telos of organizational decisions. Thus, in contemporary organizations, emotions receive their due consideration, and, more importantly, they are controlled and managed by administrators through various means and methods. Concisely, emotions that comprise salient places within the working settings of contemporary organizations are also highly noteworthy and of overarching role at universities where the workforce and cognition-power of the future will be brought up. Of the most important sectors of service, educational sector is; hence, it is highly important, as this study aims investigating, to ascertain the ways and means that are put into practice by administrators of universities to control and ménage the emotions of academic staffs who work at one of the stairs of that sector. Thence, in this study, it is aimed that the attitudes of emotion management by administrators will be studied, analyzed and interpreted. The study is of a descriptive study in its methodology, based on hatching model. The method and application of the study have been conducted through sending e-mails to 47,000 academic staffs existing on the ARB S (Academicians Information System) database between the months June and July, 2012. The research query was open for 7 weeks during which total 4843 responses were received from them. V Nonetheless, of these responses, only 4375 query answers were used in the study as workable outputs. Additionally, in the study, following the search of related literature, the studies had done before, and the views of the professionals in the field, the techniques for datacollection were as follows: the Scale for the Attitudes of Emotions Management from Administrative Processes; the Study of Reliability and Acceptability in Turkish as developed by Watson, Clark, and Tellegen (1988); and "The Scale for Positive and Negative Emotion" (PNDÖ in Turkish / SPNE in English) as created by Gençöz (2000). As for analysis of the data acquired the following modalities were made use of: Frequency, percentage, average ascertaining, standard deviation, the-test, and the One-Way Anova / Analyasis-of-Variance. For the sake of generalization, in accord with the results of the study, academic staffs do not view that the attitudes of emotion management by administrators working at higher educational institutions in Turkey are not well enough and satisfying. From this, it may be concluded that those academic staffs who have positive emotional ethos and situation may both give their teaching duties much more efficiently as well as be more assiduous and keen in producing scientific knowledge in their respective fields.
