Abstract (EN)
Tuberculosis has been keeping its importance as a health problem in Turkey as well as all around the world. Incidence of tuberculosis in Mediterranean region between the years 2006-2007 is determined as 18.3/100000 and 17.8/100000 ,respectively. In this study, it?s aimed to identify the patients living in Adana and environment cities , and having consulted to some various clinics in Balcalı hospital of Medicine Faculty in Çukurova University via the system of susceptibility of 179 M. tuberculosis strains to primary antituberculosis drugs that were tested by BACTEC MGIT 960. Total of 179 strains, 148(82.6%) of them were respiratory materials, 31(18.4%) of them were isolated from other materials(joint fluid, abscess, tissue, biopsy material, lymphatic fluid, cerebrospinal fluid, urine). Among the strains, of 131(73.18%) were sensitive to all of the antituberculosis drugs, of 48 (26.82%) were resistant to at least one antituberculosis drug and 18(10.05%) were resistant to at least two drugs. In susceptibility tests of this study, M. tuberculosis ATCC 27294(H37Rv) strain known as sensitive to drugs is used as quality control. Among the evaluated strains; resistance to streptomicine, isoniazide, rifampicine, ethambutol was 22(19.89%), 30(27.63%), 9(9.87%), 7(6.85%) respectively while multidrug resistance was 18(10.05%). Sixteen(9.49%) of multidrug resistant strains are resistant to two drugs, two(1.12%) strains are resistant to three drugs and no strains are found that were resistant to all drugs. 15(8.38 %) strains were resistant to only streptomicine, 13(7.26 %) strains were resistant to only isoniazide, 1(0.56%) strains was resistant to only rıfampicin and 1(0.56%)strains was resistant to only ethambutol. The highest resistance rates was detected for isonazide(27.63%).
