Abstract (EN)

This study was conducted as a cross sectional/ descriptive study to determine the level of adaptation of women who are on bedrest due to high-risk pregnancy to pregnancy and affecting factors. The study was carried out at obstetric clinics in the İstanbul Şişli Hamidiye Etfal Education and Research Hospital, and the Okmeydanı Education and Research Hospital between 03.08.2015-03.01.2016. The sample of the study constitutes of 51 pregnant women who are on partial/ strict bedrest for at least 5 days at the hospitals due to high risk pregnancy, able to speak and write Turkish, and willing to participate in the study. Required permisson from Koc University Ethics Committee and relevant institutions and a written consent from pregnant women were obtained. A pregnant women description form, the prenatal distress scale, and the prenatal self evaluation questionnaire were used to collect data by face to face interviews. Mann-Whitney U and ANOVA tests were used to analyse data. The mean age of pregnant women was 30.1±6.5, duration of marriage was 7.2±5.6 years, avarage gestastional week was 31.69± 4.7 and hospitalization duration was 6.31±2.5 day. The mean PSEQ score of adaptation of women to pregnancy was found low as166.50±25.11. It was determined that having own social insurance, good level of perceived family income level, and the status of having a planned pregnancy increased the level of adaptation (p<0.05). History of hospitalisation during previous pregnancy, being away from home due to staying at hospital, and being away from familiy were effecting pregnancy negatively. Also, it was found that increased prenatal distress score decreased level of adaptation to pregnancy (p<0.05). As a result, it was recommended to develop a comprehensive nurisng care model embracing psychosocial and physical problems to increase adaptation of women who are on bedrest at hospital to pregnancy.
