ABSTRACTPhD ThesisBIOMECHANICS CHARACTERIZATION OF PLATES USED FOR HIGHTIBIAL OSTEOTOMYAhmet YARDIMEDENFırat UniversityGraduate School of Natural and Applied SciencesDepartment of Mechanical Engineering2006, Page : 147Medial Opening Wedge Osteotomy technique is a frequently utilized method inorthopedic clinics and is preferred for the early period treatment of isolated varus gonartrozpatients. In this method, wedge supported plates with different design features are used tospecify the space of osteotomy. In the present study, the stability of plates against axial loading force and possiblefracture sites resulting from constant loading forces during different loading angles (α), axialpressure and torsions were determined. For this purpose, computed tomographic images of righttibia from a 30 years old male weighing 875N, were obtained and analyzes by finite elementprogram ANSYS were performed. When tibia was loaded through different loading angles (α),it was noted that as the loading angle (α) increased, there was a corresponding decrease in tibialtensions. Keywords: Proksimal tibial osteotomy, Tibia, Biomechanic, Finite element method, ANSYS
