Abstract (EN)

The purpose of this study is to investigate Turkish ESL, undergraduate, master?s, and PhD students? stresses that are faced with different areas of their life in abroad and these students? coping with stress skills to determine their chosen methods in order to identify how chosen variables such as age, gender, education level, parental education level, length of time students have been in United States of America (USA), and place students have been lived affect their coping strategies. In order to collect data, The Personal Information Form and Coping with Stress Scale have been implemented to 260 male, 121 female a total of 381 Turkish students which consist of 80 ELS, 23 undergraduate, 197 master?s and 81 PhD students who are being educated in the USA.In analyzing the data, ?t? test was applied to groups which have two variables and One Way Variance Analysis (ANOVA) was applied in groups having more than two variables. After the finding, when one way variance analysis resulted that the ?F? value is significant, ?Tukey? test was applied to find out the group means between which there is a significant difference. The lowest probability level for significance was established at 0.05.At the end of the research1-Students who were under 22 took more social support that students who are older than 30. When the students? ages increase, it was observed that students took less social support after being faced with stressful events in their life.2-It was observed that master?s students used more social support than the ESL students.3-Male students used more problem focused coping skills than the female students and male and female students had similar approaches towards avoidance and looking for social support coping strategies.4-According to length of time students have been in USA variance, students used similar use of avoidance coping strategies. One the other hand, students who have been in USA longer than others used more problems focused and looking for social support coping strategies.5-It was founded that the place students were living did not affect their coping strategies.6-When parental education level was considered with coping with stress strategies, significance were found at both problems focused and looking for social support coping strategies but no significance was found avoidance coping strategies. When the parental education level increased, usage of problem focused and looking for social support coping strategies increased.
