Investigation of the Relationship Between Surgical Margin and Recurrence Following Basal Cell Carcinoma Excision in the Facial Region Basal cell carcinoma is the most common skin cancer, and it is twice as prevalent as the second most common skin cancer, squamous cell carcinoma. The incidence of basal cell carcinoma continues to rise each year. The primary objective of basal cell carcinoma treatment is the complete removal of the tumor. After surgical excision, the reconstruction of the defect varies depending on the location and size of the defect and the skin to be used in the reconstruction. The aim of this study is to compare recurrence rates associated with different pathological types and surgical margins in patients with facial basal cell carcinoma excised with appropriate surgical margins. Accordingly, pathological data such as the histological type of primary lesions, the distance to the lateral and deep surgical margins, and other factors were evaluated in 107 patients diagnosed with BCC in the facial region. In addition, patient demographics including gender, age, the surgical technique used, tumor localization, and recurrence status after a 1-year follow-up were analyzed. The results were statistically analyzed to determine if there were any significant differences. As a result of this study, tumor localization was most commonly found in the nasal region, with 50.5% of the patients diagnosed with superficial BCC and 37.4% with nodular BCC, and no statistically significant differences were found among the tumor subtypes. Recurrence occurred in 7.5% of the patients, and no statistically significant difference was observed in the average surgical margin between patients with and without recurrence. This study provides guidance for the surgical margin planned for the operation based on the subtype of the tumor, location of the tumor and all variables in the patients to be operated on .
