Abstract (EN)

Swimming is a sport in which not only physical endurance but also psychological health plays a significant role. In this context, determining which psychological factors positively or negatively affect athletes' performance can contribute to the more effective design of training programs and psychological support services. This study aims to understand how these factors interact with each other and their potential effects on athletes' performance by focusing on the psychological states of swimmers. The population of the research consists of athletes aged 18 and over actively involved in swimming in Kırşehir province. The sample group consists of 309 swimmers selected by random sampling method. In the study, the "Psychological Resilience Scale for Adults" developed by Friborg et al. (2003); the "Sport-specific Achievement Motivation Scale" developed by Willis (1982); and the "State-Trait Anxiety Inventory" developed by Spielberger, Gorsuch, and Lushene (1970) were used. The study compares the psychological resilience, achievement motivations, and anxiety levels of swimmers both with each other and according to demographic and specific variables such as age, gender, education level, monthly income, and weekly training hours. As a result of this comparison, a significant relationship was found between the social resources subscale of the psychological resilience scale and monthly income, as well as between the social competence subscale and the variable "Do you work anywhere else for additional income besides sports?". The study also found a positive relationship between the achievement approach motivation subscale of the sport-specific achievement motivation scale and age, weekly training hours, and the variable "Do you work anywhere else for additional income besides sports?". Additionally, a negative relationship was found between trait anxiety and monthly income. Furthermore, it was observed that the sport specific achievement motivation scale and the psychological resilience scale for adults moderately and positively influenced each other.
