The evaluation of the ecotourism resources of Zamantı Stream basin in terms of sustainable ecotourism

This study has aimed at analysing the natural, historical and cultural values in Zamantı Stream basin, which is located within the borders of Anatolia and Mediterranean regions, in terms of ecotourism that is one of the tools of sustainable tourism. In the study the characteristics of the physical and human environment of the basin along with natural, historical and cultural ecotourism values were determined and depending on these resources, the potential for ecotourism was propounded. The existing ecotourism values of Zamantı Stream basin were examined and then the analyses were carried out for the use of ecotourism potential in the basin. In the study, literature review, field studies and survey application were used in the determination of the present values of ecotourism. Geographic Information Systems were utilized in the mapping of values and activities of the existing and potential ecotourism in the basin. Ecotourism values in the Zamantı Stream basin were found to have a noteworthy potential for economic development. However, lack of tourist facilities, the difficulty of infrastructure and transport facilities, lack of promotion and advertising, and the shortcomings in the economic development are all retarding the progress of ecotourism in the region. It is essential to do planning in accordance with the principles of sustainable tourism so that the ecotourism activities in the Zamantı Stream basin can be realized healthily and the local community can benefit from them.
