Confounding Instances Pertaining to the Ten Recitations and Their Explanation in Ibn Al-Jazari's Book "Al-Nashr": The Long Surahs as an Example Abstract: The science of Qira'at (Quranic readings) is one of the most important and distinguished fields of knowledge as it is directly related to the Book of Allah, the Holy Quran. The foundation of this science is based on the concept of "Tawatur" (authentic transmission), and it is consolidated in the ten canonical readings, which were compiled, researched, and authenticated in various texts and narrations. "Al-Nashr fi al-Qira'at al-'Ashr" by the Sheikh of readers and hadith scholars, Imam Ibn Al-Jazari, is considered the most important text in this field. It compiles the ten readings from various sources and chains of narration, detailing both the principles and the specific variations of the readings, which amount to over a thousand different paths. Ibn Al-Jazari's work serves as a summary of previous efforts in the field and as a foundational reference for subsequent scholars. It is the cornerstone for granting Ijazah (permission to teach) in the science of Qira'at. The differences among the reciters arise in the pronunciation of specific words in verses, which may involve adding or omitting a letter, altering the diacritical marks, or changing the position of the words. Such differences may pose confusion to listeners, leaving them in doubt because the reading deviates from what they are accustomed to hearing or what they have learned about the Arabic language. The purpose of this study is to clarify these points of confusion and to provide an explanation for them, ensuring that the interpretation adheres to the linguistic rules and knowledge recognized by the Arabs. The study is divided into an introductory section, a chapter explaining the issues and how Imam Ibn Al-Jazari addressed them, and an applied section that includes eight topics, one for each Surah, from Surah Al-Baqarah to Surah Al-An'am. The study highlights verses where the readings differ among the ten reciters, the issues arising from these differences, and their corresponding interpretations. The study concludes with a final section and a list of references. The methodology of the thesis is descriptive and analytical, with an inductive approach. The description is provided by identifying the issues, while the analysis focuses on the nature of these issues. The inductive method is demonstrated by collecting evidence to resolve these issues, drawing on the works of Quranic scholars, particularly Ibn Al-Jazari, and experts in linguistics. The explanation of the verses uncovers the linguistic craftsmanship and highlights the various interpretations of Quranic readings as presented by scholars of language, grammar, and exegesis, based on Ibn Al-Jazari's resources in his book and the chains of narration to the scholars. By resolving the confusion and clarifying the intended change in the wording, this approach enriches the meaning of the text and reinforces the general interpretation of the verse.
