Abstract (EN)

Retrospective Comparison of Blood Parameters of Patients aged 10-18 years with Vitamin D Deficiency After 3 Months of Vitamin D and Vitamin D + K Treatment Introduction: Vitamin D deficiency is very common in our country and in the world. Treatment is often prescribed to children and adults in order to prevent the deficiency of this vitamin, which plays a key role in the health of the bone and skeletal system. In order to increase the effectiveness of this treatment, it was aimed to investigate the effect of adding vitamin K, which is also found to be effective on bone metabolism, on the improvement of vitamin D and bone metabolism biomarkers. In our study, the superiority of vitamin D + K treatment over vitamin D treatment alone was investigated in children aged 10-18 years with vitamin D deficiency. Material and Methods: The data of 77 pediatric patients with vitamin D deficiency who applied to the Pediatrics Outpatient Clinic of Bezmi Alem Vakıf University Faculty of Medicine were included in the study. 39 of the children received only vitamin D (1000 mg daily cholecalciferol orally) treatment for 3 months, and 38 of them received vitamin D+K (1000 mg daily cholecalciferol oral + 200 mg menaquinone oral) treatment for 3 months. The blood parameters of the children participating in the study were taken before the treatment, and these parameters were repeated at the end of the treatment. Results: In the statistical study (In Rv4.1.2 software language, tidyR, v.1.1.4, dplyr v.1.0.7, ggplot v2.3.3.5 tidyverse v.1.3.1 fBasics v402192, vstatix v.0.7.0 libraries are used.) serum vitamin D, calcium, phosphorus, alkaline phosphatase, parathormone, vitamin B12, iron, total iron binding capacity, leukocyte, hemoglobin, hematocrit, platelet, and albumin levels were investigated. A statistically significant difference was found between the mean serum vitamin D level, serum calcium level, and serum parathormone level of the patients receiving only vitamin D treatment and the patient group receiving vitamin D+K treatment. (respectively p=0.029, p=0.007, p=0.036) The mean serum vitamin D level was 19% and serum Ca level 0.3% higher in the group receiving vitamin D+K treatment compared to the group receiving only vitamin D treatment, while the serum parathormone level was as low as 5.8%. was seen low. There was no statistically significant difference in the levels of phosphorus, alkaline phosphatase, and osteocalcin, which are biomarkers of bone metabolism.
