The concept of fear and violence of the tale books in the 100 basic works

This research is carried out with the aim of determining and evaluating the elements of fear and violence in tales listed on the 100 Basic Works which the Ministry of Education recommended primary schools. Document analysis method which is a kind of qualitative research is used to study literary works. ''Sentence'' is used as a starting point to examine the works in terms of fear and violence. The works are examined one by one at a level of ''sentence'' and works including violence and fear are classified numerically. To analyse required data, making use of the findings of Turkish teachers that are experts in their fields, content analyssis method is used. Data source of the research consists of six tale books, two of the World literature and four of the Turkish literature, and also 480 tales in these tale books which take part in the list of the 100 Basic Works recomended primary schools by the Ministry of Education. As a result of the research, elements of fear and violence are determined in the tale books listed on 100 Basic Works. Classified evaluation results showed that most common types of violence are verbal anal physical violence in native and foreign tale books. It is seen that this ranking is followed by emotional violence and sexual violence. According to the data required as a result of the research elements of violence in Turkish Literature are more than the elements of violence in World Literature.When the frequency of occurrence of violence and fear are compared the elements of fear are less than the elements of violence. It is determined that Tales of Andersen has the most fear elements and Tales of Aisopos has the least fear elements. Results required in the research are compared with the related literature and some proposals are put forward.
