The transcription and evaluation of Giresun Şer'iyye Register Book no 1443

Since the establishment of the Ottoman Empire, they appointed kadis to ensure the legal order in the lands they conquered. In this respect, the kadi, who is the representative of the classical period Ottoman law, not only takes care of the legal affairs of the region where they are located, but also has authority in many areas, especially in municipal, administrative, economic and social areas. The kadis kept the books called şer'iyye registers in the region where they were appointed. While these registers represent the court records of the kadis, they contain a lot of information in the administrative, military, economic, religious and cultural sense of a region. However, in the XIX. With the changing legal system in the 19th century, the powers and duties of the kadis changed. The 1443 şer'iyye register has an important place in showing this fluctuation in the registers. Because the examined book is a good example that reveals the narrowing of the duties and powers of the kadis, and when the records in it are examined, it is a good example that shows that the kadis have become an advisory council. Another issue that played an active role in the study of the Giresun Court Registry No. 1443, which coincided with the last years of the Ottoman Empire, was to try to understand how Ottoman law worked in the provinces as opposed to the center. In this respect, it was tried to reveal how effective the laws and regulations issued in the center were in the provinces. The reason for working on a registry belonging to Giresun among the Sharia registries is that it is a province far from the center and because it is between the big commercial cities such as Trabzon and Samsun in its vicinity, it contains nationalities such as Greek and Armenian. Because, in the light of the information in the sharia registers, it is possible to have an idea about the communication of these nations with Muslims and their lifestyles. However, since no general conclusion can be reached from this book, which covers a period of about two years, more precise information can be obtained by comparing it with other books. In this respect, Giresun Sharia Registry No. 1443, which is transcripted and evaluated in terms of the content of the information in the sharia registers, will especially contribute to city history researchers.
