The representation of 15th-16th century Ottoman textiles in cinematic narratives

Textiles have been a significant element reflecting the cultural and social structure of societies in different periods of history. In this context, the textile art of the Ottoman period presents a rich cultural heritage. Textiles from the Ottoman era are significant both for their aesthetic values and as symbols of social status and power. Nowadays, films and series focusing on the Ottoman period are reviving this rich textile heritage through visual language and reaching a wide audience. In recent years, textiles, which are a combination of material, style, and creative approach, have become a primary element in historical films and series, becoming visible in the space they occupy. The concept of space serves as a complementary factor in realistically representing characters while conveying the script and effectively communicating this reality to the audience. Especially in the production process of period films and series, the textiles used aim to enhance the impact on the narrative and achieve historical realism. In this context, the research has analyzed the cinematographic representations of Ottoman period textiles in terms of their historical and formal characteristics, evaluating the functionality and impact of textile products in the processes of creating atmosphere and meaning.
