Abstract (EN)

The choice or design of the intercooler in the diesel engine overfill system, which is used today in the railway system vehicles, which is a rapidly developing sector of the transportation sector, is important in terms of engine efficiency and fuel consumption. In this study, 12 different intercooler model were designed for turbo charged and intercooled 16-cylinder diesel locomotive engines and Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) of analysis of each design was use. Designs were produced with prototype of optimum design compared with existing intercooler in terms of temperature and pressure loss. With the present intercooler, the optimum design intercooler was mounted on the motor and performance tests were carried out at different loads at the speed at which the motor achieved maximum power. According to the situation where the present intercooler is used, it is determined that the intercooler outlet temperature is 7 ˚C lower when the optimum design intercooler is used. The efficiency value for the current intercooler was calculated to be 0,88 and the efficiency value for the optimum design intercooler was calculated to be 0,96. When test motors of 1500 rpm constant speed and 4 different load values are evaluated in test engines, when the optimum design intercooler was used at maximum load, the current intercooler of the engine fuel consumption was found to be % 6,22 lower than that of the engine used. Effective efficiency of the engine in which the present intercooler is used is calculated as % 31,6 and the effective efficiency of the engine in which the optimum design intercooler is used is calculated as %.33,74.
