The transcription and assessment of 1699 dated Mekka Surre notebooks

As a word surre mean is 'pouch', as terminology mean is that coins and various gifts which was sended with special ceremony so as to give Haramayn's peoples. Ottoman Sultans, by means of Hâdimu'l-Haramayn role, wanted to win people and magister's heart lived in this area and to rise prosperity of the Holy Land, by sending coin and gifts be called with the understand, Abbasî, Memluk, Fatımî and Eyyubî States sended various gifts that can be qualification as surre before Ottomans State. But systemically and every year surre sending was a specific case only for Ottoman State. In Ottoman State, firstly was sended in Yıldırım Bayezid Han's term (1389-1402), after it was sended respectively by Mehmed I (1403-1421), Murad II (1421-1451), Mehmed II (1451-1481). When it comes to Bayezid I term, sending surre turned into custom activity of the state. Selim's I period, after Hicaz was added in Ottoman territories, surre was sended systemically and regularly with special ceremony that high state official took part in and this way continuanced until collapse of the state. In this work, in 1699, sended to Mekka gifts and surre notebooks that founded this gift registers were handled. İn the light of informations in this registers, was deduced about status tackled period's Mecca's social and economic.
