Abstract (EN)
Social and daily life of Galata which is called Ottoman's Christian district (Frengistan) in 1750-1755 is studied in this dissertation. The main aim of determining the subject is to reveal that if the Galata is a really a Christian district (Frengistan) or not. Also observing the relationships between Europeans and especially Italians who had not left after the conquering of Istanbul is another aim of the research. To reveal spatial structure of Galata, statue of Galata, surrendiring of Galata, walls and entrances walls are studied. It is tried to gather informations in chronics and travelogue. Then spatial change with change in Ottoman is touched. But main resources of social and daily life of Galata in this study are court records Galata. According to the court records of Galata it was tried to define how did Muslims, Christians and people from other religions live in Galata.
