The effects of the classical Turkish poetry 18.th ceuntry political life

Literary works are very important sources which puts forth the past of a nation and quality of nation?s civilization. It isn?t wrong to think if we evaluate the quality of a nation?s civilization according to its artists, authors and poets in other words its work of art.A literary work itself, being subjective, is apart from written texts which are the sources history. For this reason evaluation of an event for chroniclers is different than poets and artists. Since artist?s desire and agitation is showing the outer world from his view rather than showing absolute reality of the world. So the truth in a historical text changes and shapes than in a piece of verse in divans (collected poems) according to the poet?s social life and conditions of his social life, career and psychological condition.In our research, we try to estimate divan poets? manners and behaviours considering their approaches to political events and people, situations which they are in. Because divans, giving name to classical Ottoman poetry and containing whole poems of poets, and especially kasidas and historical stanzas in these divans hold special features not only for literature researchers but also for historians and socio-cultural researchers who can benefit from.In our thesis, whose subject is the reflection and effects of political life to divans, we have searched 54 studies, which are books, postgraduate or master thesis on divans. Apart from these; although we have determined 44 other divans belonging to this century, we couldn?t have the opportunity to study them because there weren?t any critical text studies on them or some of them were restricted to access by YÖK because of some reasons. The divans that we could determine and the studies are shown separately in the problems during the research section.Our research consists of five main chapters:1.18th century Divan poets? view about statesman of the period.2.The political events cited in the 18th century Divans.3.The reflection of the corruption in the society in the18th century to the politics4.The relationship between the poets and politics.The poets? attitudes towards the statesmen and political events are given totally and several poets? views about the same statesmen and events are tried to be given. Reviews of these are given in relevant chapters. In the last chapter it is appreciated specially what differences can be between the views of a literary work and a historical document setting from the different thoughts about the same events and people.While stating the reflection of social life to the Divan poetry, we emphasize the effects of political developments and events on public rather than public life and culture, among other things mentalities and manners of governors and people are searched in poems and tried to be put forth.In the fourth chapter, which the relationships between poets and politics and their careers political relations whose reflections on divans were appraised, it is tried to be determined how and why poet and politics relations stated in poems and also patrons of each poet and the number of poems and couplets written against other politicians are shown on graphs. This state is undoubtedly more directive to show poet patron relation.
