Abstract (EN)
This study focused on the ammunition supplies and assessments of forts on Crete Island, which were subject to Ottoman territory in the 19th century. The study consists of introduction, six main chapters, conclusion and appendices. In the introduction, the aim, scope, limitations and literature review of the study are explained. In the first part, information about the process of the Crete Island coming under the domination of the Ottoman Empire was given. Afterwards, the administrative activities on the island and the separation of the island from the lands of the Ottoman Empire were expressed. In the second part, first of all, general information about the Ottoman castles was brought together and the castle sections were conveyed. Afterwards, an explanation was given about the groups who were in charge of the castles, and lastly, the roles of the Ottoman castles during the expeditions and wars were mentioned. In the third chapter, an evaluation was made about the cannons detected in the Cretan castles. Afterwards, the data about the rifles and pistols detected in the castles were transferred, and evaluations were made in the light of these data. In the continuation of the same section, the data of the artillery shells are given. In the fourth part of the study, explanations were made about the handguns found in Heraklion, Chania, Suda, Ispirlonka, Pirebiza, Palmu, Rethymno, Granbusa and Kisamo castles. In the fifth part of the study, the raw materials identified on the island were evaluated and what these raw materials were was stated. In the sixth chapter, which is the last chapter, the evaluation of other tools other than these materials has been made. After the conclusion section with the general evaluation, the appendices section is given. This section contains various tables and documents related to the subject.
