The Turkish minority artists from 1883 to 2003 and their works of art

Minority, is a group in a country not a part of dominant people but they have their own culture and they are a society in unity. The term minority was first used in medieval ages and it is still used today. During the Ottoman reign minorities were active in trade, political, economic and artistic fields. One of these artistic fields in which they are active is painting. The aim of this study is to search the contributions of minority artists to the art of painting in Turkey from 1883 to 2003 and the reflections of their lives to Turkish Art of Painting and the condition of representing Turkish Art of Painting in other countries. Besides, the aim of this study is to search the works of these artists and the view of Turkish society and government against minority artists from Sanayi-i Nefise, the first fine arts faculty, to today. In paralel to this subject, the Ottoman Empire and socio-economic condition in Europe towards 20th Century was also searched.In this research, general information about the minority artists who have lived from 1883 to 2003, during the Ottoman reign and Turkish Republic was given and their contribution to Turkish Art of Painting was tried to be searched. The research is important in this respect. The research is patterned with scooping methodology. In this research one of the qualitative research techniques, half-formed interview technique is used. In the research, there has been a literary field research initially about the development of Turkish Art since 1883, the westernization period and minority artists.In the research, the reform movements about education and art, the perspective of the government and society about minority artists and society, the effects of social incidents to minority artists from 18 th Century during Ottoman reign to today, were searched. In Turkey, the minority artists express their every kind of artistic activities freely and represent our country abroad, and they win awards in the name of Turkish nation. They work in the same workshops together with Turkish artists, they hold exhibitions together and continue their studies in interaction.
