Abstract (EN)

This thesis titled "19th Century Monumental Structures of Bolu" focuses on the monumental structures built in Bolu province during the 19th century (1801-1900). Despite being a city with traces of various civilizations throughout history, limited information is available about the structures from the 19th century. This thesis aims to document, analyze, and discuss the artistic value of these structures. The study encompasses three main types of structures: mosques, inns, and public buildings. Of the 14 structures studied, 10 are mosques, 2 are public buildings, and 2 are inns. These structures are located in various parts of Bolu province, with 7 in the city center, 1 in Dörtdivan District, 1 in Gerede District, 1 in Mengen District's Güney Köyü, 2 in Göynük District, and 2 in Seben District. During the Ottoman period, Bolu witnessed significant construction activities under Yıldırım Bayezid, resulting in notable structures. The mosques are generally small-scale and single-roomed, but there are also larger and more prominent mosques like the Yıldırım Bayezid Mosque and the Merkez Çavuşlar Mosque. The inns served as centers for commercial activities, with examples like the Gerede Kiliseli Merchant Inn. Among the public buildings, the Government Mansion and the Göynük Government Mansion stand out.
