Abstract (EN)
On October 24, 1929, the economic crisis that started in New York, USA, with the sudden depreciation of stock markets, soon affected first the USA and then the whole world. The crisis led to a change in the known economic understanding and the emergence of new models in the economy. The US in particular and other European countries affected by the crisis were trying to overcome the crisis with the least possible damage by taking various measures. The Republic of Turkey, which was one of the countries where the effects of the crisis were seriously felt, tried to overcome the crisis by taking various measures. At this point, the crisis had important political and social consequences as well as economic consequences. Studies in this field mostly analyzed the crisis in terms of its economic dimensions. We conducted our thesis in order to examine the political and social effects of the crisis in addition to its economic consequences and to contribute to this field. Press sources of the period, newspaper reports and various academic publications were used as sources. The analysis showed that the crisis led to significant changes and transformations in the economic understanding of both society and states.
