Western Thrace Turks from 1930 until the Enterance of Greece to the European Union: 1930 - 1981

The main objective of this study is to shed a little bit light on the recent history of Western Thrace Turks who is the only Turkish minority outside the borders of Republic of Turkey adopted by an international treaty. Western Thrace Turks who continue their lives as Greek citizens in Greece today is a Turkish community. What makes them special is that there are the only Turkish minority who are living in minority status was adopted by an international treaty. The developments in the near period experienced by Western Thrace Turks who came to this region during settlement period following the conquest of the Balkans and still resident here is the subject of our study. Western Thrace Turkish minority life has begun with the exclusion of the Population Exchange Between Turkey and Greece and has changed proportionally the state of diplomatic relations between these two countries. The relationship between Turkey and Greece showing improvement in the 1930's has become undulate as a result of a set of developments both between the two countries and in the world. But especially the developments after World War II and the period starting with Cyprus Crysis has caused widely migration of Greek minority in Turkey to Greece. Therefore, "reciprocity" principle which is very important for status of Western Thrace Turks has lost its importance. The developments which Western Thrace Turks lived in this approximately 50 years period constitute the main framework of our study.
